Holland Hall's 2011 ARTworks Program Features OKC-Based Artist Romy Owens

Tulsa, OK – On today's show, we meet Romy Owens, an artist who graduated from Oklahoma City University with an M.A. in Photography in 2005. These days, she devotes most of her time to taking photographs and sewing them together by hand. The result? Very interesting collage-like abstractions that pay careful attention to texture, color, form, and structure. To date, Owens has had four solo exhibits of her work, been in more than four dozen group exhibits, won numerous awards and honors for her art --- and she's currently on the campus of Holland Hall School in Tulsa as this year's ARTworks artist. Her work will be on display at that school's Holliman Gallery through November 28th. (For more information, please visit http://www.hollandhall.org/invest/fundraisingevents/artworks.) Also on today's show, commentator Barry Friedman offers a moving and well-written (and quite personal) reflection on drug abuse and addiction.
