GOP Looks to Continue Gains in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — In a Sooner state essentially controlled by Democrats for nearly a century, Republicans are hoping to capture all five U.S. House seats on Tuesday and wrap up a devastating decade for the Oklahoma Democratic Party.

Democrats have a candidate in each of the state's five congressional districts, but incumbent Republican U.S. Representatives Frank Lucas in the 3rd District, Tom Cole in the 4th District and James Lankford in the 5th District all are considered strong incumbents. The 1st District seat in Tulsa is open after Republican Jim Bridenstine shocked incumbent U.S. Representative John Sullivan in the primary. But Democrats haven't won there since 1972.

The Democrats best hope for a congressional win is the open 2nd District where Republican Markwayne Mullin of Westville faces Democrat Rob Wallace of Fort Gibson.
